Annam Color Vadam round is a traditional South Indian sun-dried crisp presented as thin, wafer-like discs in a uniform round shape. These vadams are prepared from a rice- and/or lentil-based dough that is seasoned, shaped into rounds and dried until hard; color variants are made during preparation to give bright, festive hues. When fried or roasted they puff into light, crunchy chips with a mild savory flavor and an airy, brittle texture. Annam Color Vadam round is commonly used as a snack, a crunchy accompaniment to rice meals, or as part of festive and ceremonial platters, and it stores well when kept dry and sealed.

To use, heat oil to medium-high (around 180°C / 350°F), carefully slide a single vadam into the hot oil and watch it puff up almost immediately; fry just until fully puffed and crisp (usually a few seconds), remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels before serving. For a low-oil option, hold the vadam over a gas flame or roast on a dry tawa, turning until crisp and evenly browned. Store unused vadams in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from moisture.
